Torrential downpours have led to the overflowing of a river in northeastern Spain on Tuesday morning. This has resulted in inundation of a nursing home and also killed four elderly people living in it.
Five people had to be rescued and hospitalized after flood waters entered the ground floor of a building located next to Sio River in Agramunt, which is about 90 minutes from Barcelona. According to authorities, inundation of the nursing home was part of the flooding that put much of the town under water in not more than 30 minutes before the wee hours. Although it did not rain in Agramunt but, the river was overflowing due to the rain that occurred upstream.
Heavy rains and flooding in Spain was observed after a severe storm swept Portugal on Sunday. In the Portuguese town of Albufeira, the storm had swept away cars, uprooted trees, washed away roads and caused irreparable damages. Downtown stores were flooded with muddy water almost to the ceiling. This storm killed an 80-year-old man who was found submerged in his car.
