Flood threat looms over Kansas City, Indianapolis this holiday weekend

A dangerous, life-threatening flooding situation is expected to come up in various parts of Kansas City to Indianapolis this weekend. The incessant heavy rainfall is expected to drench the mid-Mississippi and Ohio valleys during the holiday weekend of Fourth of July.

From northeastern Kansas and southeastern Nebraska to central Indiana, all these areas are expected to get the heavy rain.

"Heavy rain and thunderstorms will bring flash flooding to eastern Kansas and northern and central Missouri through Sunday morning," said weatherman.

On Saturday, numerous water rescues operations were performed in Wichita, Kansas. These places recorded over 5 inches of rain.

Weatherman said, “The threat for flooding will shift eastward from northern and central Missouri to central Indiana during Sunday and across the Ohio Valley on the Fourth of July."

From Topeka, Kansas, to Kansas City; Springfield, Illinois; and Indianapolis rainfall of 2 to 4 inches is expected. Some isolated areas may even receive up to 6 inches or even more are possible.

There will be a huge ruckus when it comes to traveling during for the Fourth of July holiday weekend due to such adverse weather conditions.

Flooding will progress from urban and poor drainage areas to progressively larger streams this weekend and some of the major waterways, including the Ohio and Mississippi rivers, this week.

It is advised for the people living in low-lying areas to get an emergency preparedness kit and keep it handy in any event of an evacuation.

Conditions are expected to better as the holiday weekend ends as the problematic spell of the rains has shifted to Tennessee Valley and mid-Atlantic. Evening fireworks shows of Fourth of July is expected to stay on course across the plains and Missouri Valley.

There may be cancellation of such event in the Ohio Valley as rains and thunderstorms may be around into the evening hours.
