A flash flood that lasted for three hours on Tuesday night has inundated Turkey’s tourist hotspot of Bodrum. The flash flooding was triggered by heavy rains. Flood waters that came down from the mountains took away many cars leaving them scattered around the town center. The flood waters turned the streets into streams.
The flood water levels reached over two meters across Üçkuyular Avenue, Atatürk Avenue, Dere Street, Hamam Street and Cevat Şahit Street. Nearly 20 vehicles were washed away on the Şakir Avenue. The local authorities managed to save many drivers who were trapped in their vehicles and they were helped by people passing by. A transmission tower collapsed due to the flooding. They also rescued 40 people stuck in their houses. Eight people have been injured in the floods and they have been taken to Bodurm State Hospital for treatment. Dozens of houses and business complexes have been damaged due to the high level of the flood waters. Fortunately in all this no one has lost their lives but, the region has suffered a major economic loss.
