In Argentina, the flood water broke the riverbanks and deluged the streets of Buenos Aires killing three people on Tuesday. The flooding forced more than 11,000 people to evacuate their homes. Many parts of the fertile Pampas region is under water. The Pampas region is Argentina's key region sowing crucial crops and livestock. Around 1000 people have fled from the city of Salto due to rising water levels. According to national weather service, more rain is likely but the intensity of the rain will not be as high as the rains in the recent times.

Five people missing as flash floods hit Morocco

Five people have been missing after torrential rains and strong winds flooded the Azilal region in central Morocco on Monday. The missing people include three women and two little girls. These people were swept away by flash floods in the Wadi Alfet valley of Morocco. Flash floods are common in Morocco’s valleys and severe storms have hit the valleys in recent times causing flash floods. In some areas more than a year’s rainfall has occurred in just 10 days. The widespread heavy downpour has killed around 50 people in Agadir, Guelmin and Ouarzazate regions.

Emergency declared due to floods in Chile

In Chile, a state of emergency has been declared by the authorities in the northern cities of Antofagasta and Tocopilla following heavy rains, flash flooding and mudslides. The countrywide death toll stands at six. Some people have lost their livelihood and belongings while others are in a precarious position. The storm began around four days ago across 12 regions and displaced 830 people. Four people have been killed in the arid northern region of the country which has been ravaged by severe storms and mudslides. On Saturday two people were killed in the cities of Valparaiso and Coquimbo. In Tocopilla town, heavy rainfall received in just 3 hours equalled the amount of rainfall received in  the last seven years. The floods inundated the highway that connects Tocopilla and Antofagasta trapping 180 people, who had to be rescued by air force helicopters. The threat of epidemic also looms and the government is taking necessary steps to equip hospitals to deal with it.
