The last one week has been rainy across much of Germany and has caused flash flooding on several days. People in the region will get some relief from the rains and the flash flooding early this week as a high pressure area builds thereby bringing settled weather across the region.

Last week’s severe thunderstorms which caused flash flooding killed at least eight people across the region. The first spell of rain occurred on 29th May (Sunday) and the second spell occurred on Wednesday.

Locations which are still at risk of heavy thunderstorms are Munich, Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Frankfurt and Cologne. The flood threat will not be high further to the south. These thunderstorms are capable of producing over 50 mm of rainfall and damaging hail. Along with heavy rain and damaging hail ground lightning strikes are possible. On Saturday morning around 51 people were injured due to lightning strikes at a rock festival. The slow moving storm system might cause torrential rains and flash flooding for the above locations.

A high pressure area will move southwards from Scandinavia will result in a much needed relief from the rains.

On Monday the slow moving storm system will impact Bavaria and Baden-Wurttemberg northward to North Rhine-Westphalia. These storms are capable in causing isolated flash flooding however, the flooding threat will be lower than the previous days. Much of the east will experience dry conditions.

On Tuesday much of the country will experience dry conditions with some isolated thunderstorms along the western border.
