Fatal flash floods in Rio de Janeiro, kills 4

Heavy rain and thunderstorm had occurred over Rio de Janeiro on Thursday. The intensity of rain was extremely heavy. These rain triggered flash floods in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The residents were shaken after these sudden thundershowers over the city.

It reminded them of the January 2011 Rio de Janeiro floods and mudslides catastrophe. As per the media reports, these rain swept through the residential areas creating a lot of panic. In fact, the flash floods caused loss of life also.

Four people have been reported dead. A police officer and a 12-year-old were also reported among the dead. Moreover, rains also triggered mudslides in several areas which led to the loss of life and people in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The residents in Rio de Janeiro have started to clean up their homes and neighbourhoods inundated by flash floods, mudslides which were caused by the torrential rains and thundershowers overnight.

The World Meteorological Organization has stated that Brazil, particularly the southeastern region, should be prepared for increasingly severe weather occurrences, since the catastrophic January 2011 Rio de Janeiro floods and mudslides occurred. This incident had resulted in a massive loss to life and property. Since then many alarming weather activities have been reported in Brazil.
