Canadian authorities have issued a severe weather warning for Toronto and for southern Ontario.
A Colorado low-pressure system is likely to move over Southwest Ontario around Monday night. This is expected to give 5 to 10 cm of snowfall overnight into Tuesday morning.
It’s likely to cause travel disruptions across the region. This snow is likely to transform into rain later in the day. Toronto was reeling under extreme cold weather until Sunday, however, relief from the icy temperatures are in sight.
While day temperatures were projected to be – 8°C on Sunday, night temperatures are anticipated to settle around -13°C. Wind chill was foreseen to range between -17 to -20 °C.
Now that warmer weather is on way, temperatures are expected to rise on Monday. Day temperatures will settle around -3°C. It is expected to be moderate for rest of the week. Tuesday is likely to witness a high of around 5°C during late hours.
Light snowfall is anticipated for Monday. By Tuesday 5 to 10 cm of snow could fall across most areas. Strong winds up to 31 mph with gusts of up to 37 mph can be expected on Tuesday, leading to messy morning commute.
By Wednesday, the weather is expected to become mild and calm.
According to weather experts, Toronto is now on its fourth day of the alert. The city issues cold weather alerts when the temperature is expected to reach -15°C or less or when the wind chill is anticipated to reach -20°C or less.
People are advised to take extra care as they are at a risk of cold related illnesses.
