Europe showcases varied weather conditions

The autumn months often see stark contrasts in weather conditions across Europe. An area of high pressure is giving pleasant, settled weather across Britain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and France.

Southerly winds have produced mild weather conditions, and in parts of Spain it has been unusually warm. Temperatures have reached in the low to mid-20 degree Celsius during the weekend.

Further east, the weather has been totally unexpected with robust wintry weather affecting the Baltic States, Belarus, Ukraine and Russia.

A deep frontal depression has brought stormy weather along the Baltic Sea coast with heavy rain. Once that rain merged with cold air further east, it promptly turned to snow.

Western Russia has witnessed several days of heavy snowfall and temperatures in Moscow have hovered around freezing levels since Saturday. More snow showers are anticipated in the coming days which is why night-time temperatures will drop as low as -7 °C.

Across Italy, weather conditions are relatively subdued, after Sunday’s earthquake. Due to the earthquake, over 25000 people have been left homeless. Several have also suffered injuries.

Norica is the closest town to the epicentre. Although daytime temperatures are expected to reach the high teens in bright sunshine, night-time temperatures will plummet into single digits.
