Just after achieving the feat of successfully joining the ASAT club internationally, ISRO today morning launched EMISAT satellite along with 28 others. A few satellites even hailed from nations such as Spain, Switzerland and the US. All these satellites were launched from the PSLV.
This mission was one of a kind as with this, ISRO has also pinged a few firsts. For the very first time ISRO has deployed satellites in three different orbit levels: 749 kms (EMISAT), 504 kms and 485 kms.
Also, as has been done never before, ISRO this time invited common people to be the witness to the launch.
In an another first, it is the first PSLV fourth stage (PS4) that uses solar panels to support payloads hosted on it. Prior to this, only batteries were used.
Fourth uniqueness in this mission is PSLV with four strap-on configurations. Till now, PSLV has been in either two or six strap-on configuration or without any strap-on.
Another distinguished feature of the project was that this time, the risk of collision with other debris was very high on account of the ASAT launch a few days before. Approximately 300 pieces of debris were already floating in the space and ISRO was on a lookout for a clear window.
Now that the satellites have been launched successfully, the credibility of the country’s in-born space organization has only grown in the international scenario.
