An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 on the Richter scale hits the popular destination of Lombok in Indonesia on Sunday. The quake has also killed at least ten people and injured at least about 40 people. Moreover, about a few dozens of homes have also been damaged due to the earthquake.

The powerful quake was not it but it was also followed by two minor quakes and a whopping 60 aftershocks. The number of injured and dead will only keep increasing as and when more data comes in.

As the quake rattled the island, people were seen running from homes and hotels during the early morning hours as several single-storey houses and taller buildings were damaged to quite an extent.

The epicentre of the quake was 30 miles (50km) outside Mataram in Indonesia which is away from the main tourist sites. The depth of the quake was about 7 km as per the US Geological Survey. The two of the aftershocks after the main quake had an intensity of more than 5.0 on the Richter Scale.

The quake was also felt in the popular locale of Bali which is about 100km away, however no reports of damage.
