Hurricane Dolores is strengthening and will turn into a major hurricane this week. Although, southwest Mexico will escape the fury of the hurricane, the people in the region will still have to be on alert.
Hurricane Dolores is strengthening and is expected to strengthen further due to interaction with warm waters west of Mexico. The intensity of rain and wind will increase as the hurricane strengthens but, it is not likely to impact Mexico as it will move westwards into the open waters of the eastern Pacific. However, there is enough moisture in the outer bands of the hurricane which is likely to cause moderate to heavy rain. This is enough to trigger flash floods and mudslides. Along the coastline of Mexico particularly near Manzanillo, sustained wind speeds of 65 kmph to 80 kmph will be experienced which might cause power outages and tree felling. Monday saw the bulk of action, which will diminish gradually. Heavy and gusty showers will then affect the southern tip of Baja, California.
People have been advised not to venture in the sea as the storm surge associated with the hurricane would be life threatening. The situation along the southwestern coastline of Mexico is expected to improve by weekend.
