The first of its kind ‘Iran Floods’ have brought down life and the living in the country of Iran. The death toll has now risen to 62 from the previous number of 45 on March 27.

Most of the country has been affected by flooding since March. The Northeast areas of the country reported floods on March 19 before the West and Southwest parts of the country were flooded on March 25, killing 45 people.

The flash floods had come gushing on the occasion of Iranian New Year when maximum people were out on the roads. The overflowing water took many cars as its hostages.

Fourteen people have died in the western province of Lorestan and eight in the northern province of Golestan. With this, flood-related deaths have been reported and emerged to the number of 11 out of Iran’s 31 provinces.

With this the flooding didn’t come to an end and continued till April 1 when the heavy rains returned. The reason for these on and off devastating rains is the persistence of Western Disturbances over the area.

Iran is a large semi-arid country with a mostly desert terrain located in the Middle-east Asia. As a system forms over a location it needs moisture content to strengthen in intensity and Iran acted as a perfect spot with three large water bodies in the vicinity.

The officials have added that the death count can still rise.
