Can impossible be attempted? Yes it can be. If you have the spirit of the daredevils then it can even be achieved as demonstrated by two Canadian climbers Will Gadd and Sarah Hueniken, who scaled the 51 meter high frozen Niagara Falls and they did this in less than one hour!.
The name Niagara Falls is given to the three waterfalls which outlines the border of New York state and Ontario Canada. The Niagara Falls provide a breath taking view as the water flows nearly at a rate of two million liters per second. Due, to shear volume Niagara falls almost never stop. Factually speaking, but for a 30 hour dry spell on 29th March, 1848 when the upper river was blocked due to some ice jam. The flow of water has never stopped, in fact, it was unheard of till January 2014 when polar vortex invaded North America and gripped North America in a severe freeze. Even then, the falls did not totally froze completely thus, making attempts to climb up the falls exceptionally treacherous because water continues to trickle down thus, forming a very fragile layer of ice, snow and slush. At one point when Will Gaad tried to sink his hooks into what he thought was snow, it simply crumbled down, though each step of the climb was fraught with danger and fear of death was lurking around the corner every moment Will and Sarah created history by being the first climbers to travel up Niagara Falls. After the climb when Will was interviewed, he said “there is only one Mount Everest, there is only one Niagara Falls and I feel lucky because that ended lot of hard work by a lot of people and I got to climb something to me that was really amazing and really beautiful and a whole lot of fun”.
It is to be noted that videos and photographs are the only ways to get a sense of falls majesty up close as visitors are prohibited to even walk on the bridges formed by the ice, from as far back as 1912. Climbing the falls on either side of the border is considered illegal and even the boat tour to the Maid of Mist on New York side of the falls is closed after October due to icy conditions and it opens somewhere in late April or early May.
