Updated on August 31 at 18:30: Several districts of Thailand hard hit by Storm Podul
Several provinces in upper Thailand have been hard hit by heavy rain brought by the tropical storm Podul since last night, with Khon Kaen among the hardest hit. Floodwater was reported to be as high as three metres in some districts. Several areas were submerged, especially Non Sawang and Non Sa-ard communities in tambon Nai Muang of Ban Pai district.
People flocked local roads, waiting for help from authorities after their houses were submerged overnight. Some families were stranded and were waiting on their roofs. Strong currents were reported in the area. Multiple vehicles were submerged in these waters.
Now the storm is reported to be weakening as it moves further West.
Updated on August 30 at 10:15: Storm Podul to enter Bay of Bengal around September 1 or 2
After inducing heavy rains and ferocious winds over Vietnam, Storm Podul has now already crossed the country while weakening into a Depression. It is presently over Laos and located at 17’N and 106’E.
In another 12 hours the storm will traverse over to Thailand. Podul might spend about 48 hours in Thailand before it crosses over to Burma.
The storm may again enter the sea into Bay of Bengal as a Low-Pressure Area around September 1 or 2.
Updated on August 29 at 10:21: Storm Podul heads forth to impact South China today
After bringing damagingly gusty winds and thundershowers over North Philippines, Tropical Storm Podul might cross close to the southern province of China, Hainan today i.e. Thursday. Podul might bring locally damaging winds and flooding downpours to the southern parts of the island.

Residents of Hainan are already put on an alert against any possible mishappenings and to pay heed to the advice rolled out by the local authorities.
After traversing close to Hainan, the Storm is expected to make landfall in North Vietnam on Friday.
After making landfall, the storm might lose its intensity while hovering over the terrains of Vietnam, Laos and Thailand before it travels further into the Bay of Bengal. It will take the system four more days until it emerges in the Bay of Bengal. The system is likely to affect the Indian mainland in a mild way when it approaches the Bay.
Updated on August 28 at 12:11: A new system is soon going to affect the Indian subcontinent which at present is located close to the Philippines coast. This weather system is the Cyclonic Storm Podul.
Cyclonic Storm Podul has now crossed past the landmass of Philippines and is prevailing over the South China Sea at present. The system is moving further westwards while retaining its intensity as a Storm. At present, it is located 100 km West of Philippines.
Before hitting the Philippines, the system was prevailing East of the country as a Depression.
It will be clearing the area in the next 12 hours and will prevail in the sea for the next two days. The system might hit North Vietnam in the next three days while retaining its intensity as a Storm. Podul may also affect the Province of Hainan, Laos, Thailand, and Burma before the storm weakens and passes westwards on to the Bay of Bengal. This will take the system five more days until it emerges in the Bay of Bengal.
Interestingly, a series of systems traversed the same path in the last ten days in the region.
The storm has already led to inclement weather in the Philippines. Strong winds and heavy rains are being forecast for the countries which are next up in its path.
The system will keep losing its strength or as weathermen call it, its steam, as the Storm moves over the landmass. The system will reach the sea only as a weakened system.
