Sydney has just experienced its coldest June day in two decades. On this Monday, the city observed its maximum temperature of -11.27 degree Celsius, thus being the coldest day for any month in 20 years.
According to Weathermen, there were not any record breaking temperatures, its just feels that the city had such a warm lead up into winter. It was a frosty, waterless air mass with a high compressed system that brought clear skies and a lot of snow along with it.
The cool climate is being combined with intense winds and vast surf, inciting authorities to caution against beach activities including surfing, swimming and rock fishing.
Due to wild climatic conditions, a number of trees were brought down and kept the State Emergency Service occupied. A police helicopter had to be used to save two men after they crashed into a flooded creek.
That warm beginning of June implies this month is prone to end up among Sydney's six mildest Junes on record for mean temperatures - in spite of the current cold conditions.
