Britain is expected to be colder than Moscow tomorrow. This is to a -8 °C ‘Polar plume’ that will give up to six inches’ of snow. This will continue till Wednesday.
A trail of polar air has led the Met Office to issue a 21 hour severe weather warning for low level snow from midday tomorrow for the Midlands, North and Scotland.
Minimum temperatures will drop to -8 °C tomorrow morning which is colder than -3 °C in Moscow. These weather conditions are expected to continue till Friday.
According to weathermen, accumulations of 4-8 cm snow are likely in northern England and Scotland, to an extent of 200-300 m, with as much as 15 cm above 300-400 m. The snow will settle to low levels over parts of Yorkshire and the northeast Midlands.
In Britain, November to January generally record below-average temperatures, with slightly colder-than-average but three times likely to be milder than normal temperatures.
High-altitude Polar Vortex winds that move around the North Pole and keep the cold air trapped in the Arctic may weaken. Thus allowing Polar air to plunge south and chill Britain.
There is a high chance that the polar vortex will be disrupted leading to a reduction in the westerly flow, but a greater frequency of northerly or easterly winds. This flow of winds will bring cold air to the UK.
