The threat of another round of incessant rains looms large over Queensland and Brisbane. Severe thunderstorm warning stands in place for both the regions.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a flash flood warning  that would mainly aim places between Townsville and Emerald. The Meteorological Department of Australia claims that the next several hours are crucial for the warning areas. Torrential rainfall may trigger flash flooding over the regions.

As per the weathermen, a weak tropical low is seen moving south of Papua New Guinea and is likely to strengthen further. There is a slight possibility that it may intensify into a cyclone towards the weekend. However, it is still uncertain and the condition will be pretty more clear within a day or two.

Locations like Collinsville, Nebo, Sarichs and Eungella are the most likely to get affected by floods. The weathermen also predict more rainy days ahead for Brisbane. A couple’s home was also flooded in the Capricorn Coast leaving them homeless.

On account of this devastating torrential downpour, more than 40 roads have been shut in Central Queensland along with the far north. On account of this deluge, several parks and athletic fields across the Gold Coast were also shut. Schools have also been closed due to the unsettled weather conditions.

Southeast Queensland dams at Little Nerang and Wappa were also opened to spill the excess water due to the flood. In fact, since June last year, the Hinze Dam in the Gold Coast hinterland has overflown for the first time.

The Meteorological Department forecasts the possibility of some drenching even today continuing until tomorrow for Brisbane that could expect hefty rains of up to 100 mm. The temperatures across the city along with heavy showers are also likely to settle at upper 29°C tomorrow and 28°C on Friday.
