Temperatures across the U.K. is expected to plummet to a freezing -5°C. In fact, a 46ft wave was recorded in the Shetland Islands on Boxing Day that had made the mercury level drop to freezing low.

The session of such chilly weather is expected to hover Britain until the coming New Year as well. The huge wave also threatened the Shetland Islands to get slashed by winds gusting at 94mph.

This massive 46ft wave was pictured by photographer Ryan Sandison. Unsettled weather prevailed in York where Floods wreaked havoc last day and exhausted a few homes and shops. Similar destruction was observed exactly a year before during last Christmas.

For those who are returning to work after celebrating Christmas, extremely chilly weather condition likely to cause chaos also awaits as the temperature will settle to -5°C.

Yesterday, after ice led to 15 miles of tailbacks, the M5 motorway had to be forcefully shut. Moreover, due to several incidents caused by the ice on the roads, the major motorway on the Avonmouth Bridge at Bristol also had to be closed by the Highways England.

Additionally, motorists were also cautioned against the hazards of freezing fog. Furthermore, the temperatures are also expected to fall and settle at freezing -6°C in East England. Dense fog is likely to create travel chaos especially in the southwest, patches of these fog can also be witnessed for the next couple of nights.

The main reason for such a weather condition can be well attributed to an edge of high pressure in the far-reaches of the country, this will, in fact, lead to difficulty in the freezing fog to shift.

As per the weatherman, widespread frosts and fog are expected in the central, southern and eastern regions. This will lead to snowy and chilly weather and will take some time to clear off.  Scotland has also witnessed some snow and winds of up to 95mph which was primarily due to Storm Conor.

As per the European air quality experts Prev’Air pollution level is also expected to form across Britain over the next few days.
