Blazing heat grips Central, Eastern US with record breaks mercury

Several parts of Central and Eastern United States have been reeling under record-high temperatures since the beginning of the week. According to weathermen, this warm weather was due to a strong high pressure area coupled with warm southwesterly winds.

Bringing back July-like heat, day temperatures at most of the places have been above average by 10°F to 20°F. In some cases, these temperatures have even reached 30 degrees above normal. These temperatures have broken century old records.

On Monday, Dodge City in Kansas recorded maximum temperature of 101°F, surpassing the previous record of 94°F recorded in 1926. This is also the first time that the city has ever recorded a day temperature at or above 100 in October.

On Tuesday, the heat belt had further extended and covered areas such as Baltimore, Hartford in Connecticut, Newark in New Jersey, Evansville in Indiana, Nashville in Tennessee, New Orleans and Huntsville, Alabama.

Philadelphia and New York also came quite closer form breaking the record as they fall short of only one degree from exceeding record temperatures.

This record breaking journey continued on Wednesday as well. We can expect no relief from the hot weather conditions on Wednesday also.

Weathermen predict the warm weather is expected to continue into November as day temperatures most likely remain above normal despite periodic cooler days.
