A spell of snowfall and dangerous travel conditions will affect the Boston region this week. This spell will be followed by the coldest air of the season this Valentine’s Day weekend.
A combination of weak storm systems coming in from the Midwest will cause a few spells of snow on Thursday. During the snowfall, a fresh slushy coating of an inch or two can be expected. Maximum temperatures will be close to -1°C on Thursday. From Friday onwards a much colder air will plunge southwards from eastern Canada.
This blast of arctic air will bring in the lowest temperatures of the season so far. The cold snap and wind will make it very dangerous for those who are not properly dressed. By the weekend, the temperatures will plunge below freezing levels and remain there. At the head of the arctic blast, there are chances of stormy conditions along the coast that could cause snow inland on Saturday. This would not be an organized storm yet could cause squally condition accompanied by light snowfall and snow accumulation before the dry and arctic air takes its place over the region.
