Updated on June 2, 2015: The normal date of Monsoon to reach Bangladesh is usually between June 1 to June 10. By June 5, it reaches the eastern and southeastern parts of Bangladesh. Latest by June 10, Monsoon covers the entire Bangladesh and some parts of West Bengal as well. About 80% of rainfall in Bangladesh occurs between June and October. By the time Monsoon ends, about one-third of the country gets submerged in water.

This time the onset of Monsoon has been delayed and is expected to reach the Kerala coast in the next 2-3 days. But, the eastern arm of Monsoon which is from Bay of Bengal is likely to be weak. Therefore, there may be a delay of 5 to 6 days in the onset of Monsoon over Bangladesh. However, good pre-Monsoon showers are continuing over parts of Bangladesh.

Updated on May 30, 2015:  The southern parts of Bangladesh are prone to the weather activities that take place over West Bengal. On the other hand, northern parts of Bangladesh are affected by the weather systems that give rain over Northeast India.

Before the arrival of Monsoon, Meghalaya and Assam observe significant weather activity over the entire region. Circulations over West Bengal and Jharkhand  affect the weather over Bangladesh. Moisture laden winds from Bay of Bengal increase humidity over the region, further giving good amounts of rain over Bangladesh.

In the last 24 hours, parts of Bangladesh have received moderate to good showers. Sylhet received 131 mm of rain, Dinazpur observed 87.1 mm of rain, and Rajshahi recorded 66.2 mm of rain. Comilla witnessed 44.4 mm of rain and Faridpur recorded 30.2 mm of rain.

During the pre-Monsoon season, the weather activity in almost all parts of Northeast India becomes very significant. Most pockets in the region receive good pre-Monsoon showers. Since the northern parts of Bangladesh lie adjacent to Northeast India, the region gets affected by the weather activities occurring in the region.

North Bangladesh and adjoining central parts of the country have received good amounts of rain in the last few days. Moderate to heavy rain is expected to continue for the next few days.
