Bad weather claims 62 as FlyDubai plane crashes in Russia

55 passengers along with 7 airplane crew members of flight FZ981 from FlyDubai died in a plane crash in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don on Saturday early morning. The aircraft Boeing 737-800 was flying from Dubai to Rostov-on-Don.

The Russian investigative committee confirmed in an official statement that all passengers and crew members on board were killed in the plane crash. Most of the passengers on board were Russian, while among the rest deceased were 8 Ukrainian, 2 Indians and 1 was from Uzbekistan.

The plane attempted to land two times. Between the first and second attempt the plane circled around the city for two hours before it crashed. Some reports have also stated that the plane fell 250 meters short of the runway and crashed.

In a statement, Ghaith Al Ghaith, chief executive of FlyDubai said, “We offer our deepest condolences to the famalies of the passengers and crew.”

Emirati owned FlyDubai is a budget airline which started its operations in 2009.

Multiple reports have stated that poor visibility might be the reason for such a mishap. Although no official reports have been made as the investigation has just begun.
