Australians are celebrating their National Day under overcast skies. Showers are likely to dampen the festivities across Sydney, Brisbane, Hobart, Canberra and Darwin.
Considering the prevailing high temperatures, the Australians would actually get some relief from this spell of rain.

Canberra has been witnessing strong winds and heavy rain since Monday. An outdoor awards ceremony held here on Monday night was hit by a thunderstorm.
The Bureau of Meteorology also warned the residents of large hailstones and heavy rainfall along with damaging winds and flash flooding around Canberra and Queanbeyan.
Nevertheless, Australia Day celebrations will continue with countless tea parties, concerts and citizenship ceremonies. Not to forget the most sought after Sydney Harbour ferry races, Port Phillip Bay beach parties and Perth’s big fireworks display.
Perth will have fairly good weather conditions as more than 300,000 people gather to watch the nation’s largest Australia Day fireworks display.
Perth will see high temperature reach to about 31°C. Light southeasterly winds will blow over the city, keeping conditions better during the early afternoon hours. The hilly areas in Perth could see some light rainfall.
On Monday, Perth witnessed thunderstorms early in the morning. Heavy showers and gusty winds followed.
People in Sydney will enjoy the day with Jessica Mauboy singing the national anthem from atop the Harbour Bridge. Meanwhile, Adelaide will host the India vs Australia Twenty20 cricket match.
Brisbane will also have on display a firework show at the South Bank, during evening hours.
