The Atlantic basin has been very active this year with hurricane Grace brewing. After its origin on Saturday south of Cape Verde Islands, it has moved westwards.
Hurricane Grace is not following the same trend as hurricane Fred, which was a rare hurricane to strike the islands of Cape Verde. The storm system will be maintaining its westward track over the open waters of eastern and central Atlantic for the major part of the week. Thus, posing hazardous conditions for ships in the region. The intensification of Grace will be slower than Fred. Fred intensified from a tropical depression to a category 1 hurricane in less than 36 hours.
Grace will not intensify much due to dry air to its north. Disruptive wind shear will take the life out of the hurricane. After Wednesday or Thursday the storm is expected to weaken into a low pressure as it nears Lesser Antilles. Grace is expected to hit Lesser Antilles and other parts of the Caribbean with flooding rain and gusty winds close to the weekend. This will prove beneficial as the region is going through a drought.
