2019 is all set to be probably the second warmest year on record, as per World Meteorological Organization, which brings an end to a decade of nerve wrecking heat globally. The decade has seen melting ice and rising sea levels record like never before, all because of the notorious climate change.
In the upcoming report called State of the Global Climate report, WMO says that the 5 year i.e. (2015-2019) and the 10-year (2010-2019) will surely be the highest ever recorded. Talking about 2019’s above average global temperature, it is around 1.1 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial period.
These days, abnormal and extreme weather have become a daily affair all because of Climate Change. The weather events, which used to take place once in a century have now been occurring on a regular basis. Tropical Cyclones have ravaged right from Bahamas to Mozambique. Meanwhile, wildfires have been all across the globe, specially, Australia.
The worst effect of Climate Change is erratic rain patterns, which adversely affects the yield of crops and because of increase in Population, food security challenges for many countries in the coming future.
In the year 2019, most of the land has been warm which includes Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, as well as Oceania. Also, the colder portions of Arctic and Alaska have been very warm. On the other hand, North America has been colder than usual.
Greenhouse gas concentrations had already seen a record increase in 2018, and they continued to in 2019.
Talking about the ocean heat in particular, the ocean saw 1.5 months of unusually warm temperatures in the year 2019. Ocean heatwave was mostly strong and moderate in most and reached severe in North-east Pacific.
