A classic Antarctic blast has hit the southeastern states of Australia. Strong damaging winds, heavy rainfall and snow have been lashing many states over the region.
One elderly person was killed by a falling tree near Adelaide on Monday. The cold snap also injured two other people in separate car crashes during a night of snow, hail, and strong gusts in Victoria.
Hundreds of trees came down crashing onto houses, buildings, power lines and roads. Thousands of houses are still without power.
