Another WD to target Afghanistan & Pakistan mid-week

March 3, 2015 4:34 PM |

Though India will heave a collective sigh of relief after an unusually wet & heavy spell all across the country in last 48 to 72 hours, a return to more typically dry weather is likely over northern India from Tuesday to Saturday. Along with the dry weather, temperatures will rise back to near normal by the end of the week.

While northern India will get a break from the wet weather, Pakistan and Afghanistan will not be as lucky because couple of spells of rain will drench these countries mid-week.

Islamabad has witnessed three heavy rain events in last three weeks, including two in the past week. Heavy rain of 90mm fell on Monday over Islamabad &114mm over Chaklala, triggering the latest round of the flooding. Rains will persist on Monday night with clearing showers on Tuesday.

There will be a short break on Wednesday before another spell of rain will soak the city and neighbouring areas on Thursday and Friday & it does not end here as even more rain is likely over the weekend. The combination of all these rain will increase the chances of flood threat in the region.

In Afghanistan, around Kabul and surrounding areas, the inclement weather will elevate the threat of both rain and snow. Rain will be scattered on Wednesday and continue into Thursday when it can cause snow & sleet in higher reaches. Though the snowfall will be not be very heavy, but the higher terrain around the city could get some decent   amount of snowfall in accumulations.

Dry weather & normalcy will return on Friday but only to be disturbed by another WD that will bring fresh threat of rain and snow on week-end.
