The saga of Western Pacific typhoon continues with Typhoon Sarika being the latest one to join the league.
On Sunday morning, Typhoon Sarika, known as Karen in the Philippines, slightly weakened as it tracked across the rugged terrain of Central Luzon.
The state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported on Saturday that Karen gained maximum winds of up to 130 kmph and winds were gusting up to 220 kmph.
Typhoon Sarika has hit the Luzon Island of the Philippines with flooding rain and damaging winds. Thereafter, it is likely to aim for the southern China and northern Vietnam.
Meanwhile, the Tropical Storm Haima will approach the already flooded Philippines during the middle of the coming week.
On Saturday night, Sarika strengthened to the equivalent of a Category 3 hurricane before making landfall. The storm has affected several properties across Luzon Island.
The worst affected areas will include the east-central coast of Luzon, where winds will gust up to 130 to 160 kmph.
Flooding and power outages are being reported across central Luzon with rainfall amounting to about 100 to 200 mm at several places.
By late Sunday evening, Sarika will move away from the Luzon Islands in the northern Philippines towards the South China Sea.
