Heavy to very heavy rains have lashed the nation of Sri Lanka during the last 24 hours. These rains were attributed to a Trough extending from Sri Lanka to South Tamil Nadu. Moreover, a Cyclonic Circulation is also persisting over southeastern parts of Sri Lanka. Thus, in a nutshell, Northeast Monsoon has become active over Sri Lanka.
In the past 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Anuradhapura recorded a whopping 95 mm of rains, Maha Illuppallama 89 mm, Colombo 82 mm, Vavuniya 78 mm, Hambantota 73 mm, Batticaloa 67 mm, Trincomalee 64 mm, Kandy 26 mm, and Mannar 21 mm.
Many parts of Sri Lanka have been witnessing good rains since the fag end of November, and even now, good rains in the Sri Lankan nation are expected to be seen during the next 24 hours. Thereafter, another spell of heavy to very heavy rains are expected around December 7 and will continue for around two to three days.
Another Circulation which is over Southwest Arabian Sea and equatorial Indian Ocean will move towards Sri Lanka and result in heavy rains over the region. Flooding rains are expected to continue for the next four to five days. Thus, waterlogging, flash floods and commute problems will be seen in many parts of Sri Lanka in the coming days. Thus, residents are alerted to exercise caution during these times.
