Just a day after Indonesia was jolted due a heavy aftershock that claimed 102 lives along with bruising another 750 people, another quake incident occurred on the Northern California coast.
An earthquake of 6.5 magnitudes ripped off the Northern California coast on Thursday though no loss of life and properties were reported. However, tremors were also felt in San Francisco and Oregon. Moreover, people residing in the North Bay were also shaken by the aftershock.
The quake that was earlier reported at a 6.8 magnitude struck about 100 miles off the Northern California coast on the morning. Not found powerful enough to cause the tsunami, was later downgraded to the magnitude of 6.5.
However, several aftershocks were then reported in the area which includes one quake at 8:32 am measuring at a magnitude of 5 on Richter Scale and then followed another a minute after at 8:33 am measuring 4.1.
The epicenter of the aftershock which struck the coast early morning at 6:50 am, Pacific Timing, was 165 km west of Ferndale, California, at a depth of about 10km. Any tsunami warnings were not issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
However, trains were ordered to slow down by The Bay Area Rapid Transit in order to check for any damages to tracks and equipment. The area witnessed a 6.5 magnitude earthquake in January 2010 causing a $34 m of loss of properties in and around the nearby city of Eureka. Earlier before, in 1992 as well, the area experienced a 7.2 magnitude leaving 95 people injured.
