40-car pileup in Michigan; three dead as snow whacks the Great Lakes

Snowy weather conditions at Michigan was held responsible for a 40-car pileup that occurred on Thursday killing three and injuring eleven. The Great Lakes were lashed by a blast of frosty air and snow, and an unraveled winter storm striking the West.

The incident took place on Thursday at around 09:47 am, local timing on the westbound Interstate 96 in Livingston County. Eleven injured people were immediately rushed to the hospitals however, three people are reported to have lost their lives.

As per the weatherman, winter storm warnings have been issued for the western edge of the state on Thursday evening. The complete whiteout conditions are being considered the main reason for the accident.

Moreover, 40 accidents in the Lansing area, towards the west of the Great Lakes were reported amidst the snow. In Pennsylvania, the collision of a lot of vehicles together amid the snowy weather also injured several people on Interstate 90 westbound. The highway thereafter was closed down. The accident took place as an arctic air mass caused lake-effect snow in the Great Lakes.

Perrysburg in western New York also witnessed four inches of snow in under an hour, adding to a foot of snow already on the ground.

Another cold front moved over the coast bringing in snow along with chilly weather conditions. Freezing rain along with some snow spells hit Oregon. Additionally, winter storm warnings have also been issued for the northwest part of the state along with in Washington, Idaho and parts of Wyoming and Utah.

The icy weather in the northwest also claimed one life. Ice covering highway in this region led to two car collision that took a life of 40 years old woman away. Temperatures of 16 degrees were recorded for Walla Walla, Washington on Thursday morning while Boulder, Colorado, was just 3 degrees.

Northeast is expected to witness snow storm while Portland has witnessed 1.5 inches of snow in some parts. This has led to air disruptions thereby leading to the cancellation of approx. 60 flights to and fro the airport. The airline canceled another 37 into and out of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

Snow and icy weather is likely to thrust into the upper Midwest by Saturday while through the northeast by Sunday.
