North Pakistan experiences heavy rain

The Western Disturbance that has been affecting the northern hills of India has also given good amounts of rain in North Pakistan. In 24 hours from 8.30 am on Wednesday, Islamabad recorded 42 mm of rain. Jhelum observed 47.6 mm of rainfall, while Balakot and Kakul witnessed 26 and 23 mm of rain, respectively. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the rainfall activity is expected to continue in the region for another 24 hours with reduced intensity.

Like India, Pakistan does not observe a lot of rain during the month of April but frequent number of western disturbances which are currently tracking more southwards instead of north is the cause for good rains in the region. The WDs during winter normally affect up to central Pakistan but by April they become confined to the northern parts.

Meanwhile, the day temperatures in north Pakistan have dropped and are recording in the low 20s. For instance Balakot recorded 19.5°C as the day temperature on Wednesday. Kakul saw the maximum settle at 23°C, while Dir was cold with day temperature settling close to 16°C.

These temperatures are going to prevail in the region for next 24 hours after which a marginal rise is expected for a couple of days. However, there is another system building up which is likely to give rain in North Pakistan from April 18.
