Mumbaikars witnessed a rare celestial treat on Monday night. According to Mumbai Mirror, the International Space Station (ISS) which was orbiting the Earth at 400 km was spotted around 7:40 pm.

After the Moon, the ISS is the second brightest object in the night sky. It is visible to the naked eye because of its massive size which is about 357 feet in length.

It was visible for about five minutes on Monday night as it travels at a speed of 28,000 km/hr.

If you were unaware of the sightings and are looking forward to seeing it once again, you can take a peek at the sky at around 8:27 pm tonight, 4:40 am tomorrow, as per NASA’s website spotthestation. nasa.gov.

Given below is the fixture for the visibility of International Space Station over Mumbai.

According to Director of Nehru Planetarium in Worli, Arvind Paranjpye, it is always exciting to spot the station from Mumbai. However, the time of the sightings is determined by Mathematics.

The ISS was launched in the year 1998 and has been a temporary home to many astronauts since then. Every 90 minutes, the ISS orbits the Earth.
