If you believe that we puny humans are the only ones ‘keeping an eye’ on the sun, then you’re wrong. In the year 2010, NASA launched a unique mission known as the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) which has been observing the sun since then. The objective of the SDO spacecraft is to study the behavior of the sun and to understand its influence on the Earth as well as near-Earth space. The SDO studies events taking place on the Sun under different wavelengths.

On the fifth anniversary of the SDO, NASA was kind enough to share a video which features highlights from five years of sun watching. Some 200 millions images add up to 2,600 Terabytes of data to give you a surreal view of solar material being ejected into space, explosions on the surface of the sun, flares, and a lot more. In a nutshell, this is one dreamy video which will give you a whole new perspective on the sun. Go ahead, experience the brightness!
