NASA remains in vogue for unveiling various aspects of the world beyond our planet. Recently, the US Space Agency’s Kepler Telescope has managed to capture the brilliant shockwave of an exploding star.
Astronomers have been calling a “shock breakout”. This phenomenon occurred for a short duration and for the first time Kepler captured the occurrence in visible light.
The leader of the team is an astrophysics professor at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, named Peter Garnavich. The light captured by Kepler was analysed by him and his team every 30 minutes over a three year period. The team was looking for signs of supernovae, massive stellar death explosions.
He said that the camera needed to monitor continuously the sky to be able to see something so rare as a shock breakout. Go ahead, enjoy the spectacular stellar treat!
