India’s first planetary mission, Mars Orbiter Mission aka MOM to explore the red planet Mars has turned a year old today. The spacecraft was not only designed but was also built and launched in less than a time period of two years.

The Mars Orbiter Spacecraft carried five scientific instruments to collect data on atmospheric processes, morphology, surface geology, morphology, atmospheric processes, atmospheric escape process and surface temperature.

A year later, MOM has sent back stunning images of Mars and the Earth. ISRO has released a Mars Atlas to celebrate the first birthday of the spacecraft. The Mars Colour Camera has taken around 350 pictures, out of which 100 images have been compiled in the atlas with every information one needs on the red planet.

On September 24, 2014, ISRO had launched the low budget spacecraft successfully in the very first attempt making its place in the three nation club. AS Kiran Kumar, ISRO’s chairman has also declared to release a book on November 5 called ‘Fishing hamlet to Mars’.
