10 animal saving wildlife crossings across the globe

We often come across a lot of road accidents and most of them we encounter on the popular and crowded highways. But have you ever thought that these road accidents not only snatches away thousands of human lives, but plenty of animals also become a prey of the road accidents and are killed by vehicles?

There are conservationists that lend a helping hand in trying to find out methods to keep the faunas safe from meeting any fatalities. There come the animal bridges in the picture.

Animal bridges or wildlife crossings are built to allow the animals to cross the human-made barriers like highways, tunnels, underpasses, over bridges safely. These wildlife crossings are tailored made without affecting the nature, the first ever made wildlife bridges were in France in the 1950’s.

Now, these wildlife bridges have become a common infrastructure across the world to avoid collision of vehicles and animals.

A few animal bridges found globally are mentioned below:

Crab Bridge, Christmas Island: The Crab Bridge has become a popular tourist spot on the Christmas Island. The Island rangers help over 50 million crabs to migrate to the sea to spawn annually which is a sight to see. The rangers have built 20-kilometer plastic barriers that guide the crabs away from the island’s roads. Additionally, a five-meter-high crab bridge is also made on the busy road of the Christmas Island.
