Wheat is the major rabi-cereal crop in India. Wheat has been sown/transplanted on 271.46 lakh hectares across the states of India as on 1 January, 2016. This is against 293.16 lakh tonnes sown during the same time in 2014-15 season. Wheat, a crop that needs cold weather for better yield is under pressure this winter season.
