The USDA next month will tighten regulations for field trials of genetically modified wheat. The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service said it will require developers to apply for a permit for field trials involving biotech wheat planted on or after January 1, in the coming year. Since 1997, such trials have been authorized by notifications.
