In Uttar Pradesh, the state with the largest area under wheat crop, the acreage was 20.6% higher on year at 5.24 million hectares, while sowing of wheat in Punjab, another major wheat-growing state, was down 5.2% on year at 2.75 million hectares. Farmers in Rajasthan had sown the crop across 1.55 million hectares, 21.9% higher on year.
