According to recent updates of Farm Ministry, wheat acreage in India stood at 20.86 million hectares, down from 21.37 in last year. Higher than usual temperatures and delayed onset of the winter season have hurt sowing. Wheat sowing is lagging on year so far in Punjab, Gujarat, Assam, West Bengal and Maharashtra.
