This year Urad has been sown in an area of 34.89 lh that is up by around 25% from last year acreage of 27.83 lh. Normal in season area is 24.39 lh in the country. Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra are the largest producer of Urad in the country and area coverage for the year 2016-17 for these states are 11.68, 6.01 and 4.53 lakh hectares respectively.
