This year Urad has been sown in an area of 32.40 lakh hectares that is up by around 27% from last year acreage of 25.48 lakh hectares. Normal in season area is 24.39 lakh hectares in the country. M.P., Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra are the largest producer of Urad in the country and area coverage for the year 2016-17 for these states are 11.18, 5.88 and 4.24 lakh hectares respectively.
