The area under sugarcane in India is almost at the same level at 48.84 lakh hectare against 48.74 lakh hectare, according to the data released by the Agriculture Ministry. UP, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka are the major sugarcane producing states. Sugarcane planting is impacted adversely in Maharashtra and Karnataka due to drought.
