Sugar prices are under pressure on reports of adequate supply in the country. Preliminary estimates by the Maharashtra State Federation of Co-operative Sugar Factories are for state production of 4.5 mt in 2016-17 against 8.4 mt in 205-16 and 10.5 mt in 2014-15. The fall is attributed to two back-to-back drop in cane growing districts.
