Maharashtra, the third largest sugar producer in the country, is expected to see a 35% drop in its output during crushing season for 2016-17 that begins in November. As per sources, Production in 2016-17 is expected to come down to 50-55 lt as compared to 84 lakh tons of last year. In India, the sugar production is projected to be around 22 million tons in 2016-17.
