Indian sugar mills produced 199.47 lakh tonnes of sugar from 1st October 2015 to 29th February 2016 as compared to 195.58 lakh tonnes produced during the same period in 2014-2015 sugar season, according to Indian Sugar Mills Association(ISMA). In Maharashtra, 177 sugar mills have produced 70.40 lakh tonnes of sugar till the end of February 2016
