China imported 491,000 tonnes of sugar in March, up 19.3 percent on the same month of last year, after buyers snapped up overseas sugar to take advantage of a hefty discount to domestic prices. The jump in volumes was widely anticipated, with global prices moving in opposite directions since the start of the year, encouraging imports of the sweatener.
