Below average rains in Brazil's NE region reduced the cane area, which is expected to produce in the 2015-16 crop. Brazil's Northeast is projected to crush 52 million tonnes (MT) of cane in the current crop, versus a previous estimate of 59 MT. Region accounts for nearly 10 percent of Brazil's total cane, sugar and ethanol output.
