As per the sources, Sugar production for the current season could be lower compared with current year's estimated production of 252 lakh mt due to drought that hit Maharashtra and Karnataka. However, there is sufficient sugar stock available in the current season to meet demand of 255 lakh mt and the Govt. Has taken steps to prevent price rise of the commodity.
